Defend, Grow, Nurture Phillips (Collaborative Mural)

Lead artists: Olivia Levins Holden, Nell Pierce, Camila Leiva, Magdalena Kaluza, Simone Rendon, Missy Whiteman, James Autio, Juliette Perine Myers, Mattie Weiss, Katrina Knutson, Samie Johnson and Chaka Mkali.

This 4000 sq foot mural was created based on 4 months of community engagement, gatherings, and individual interviews about the history, challenges, and resilience of the Phillips Neighborhood in Minneapolis.

This mural was created with community participation, representing part of Minnesota’s history of community organizing, connection, and creativity.  Over 100 community volunteers participated in painting. It was supported by Olivia’s Forecast Public Art Emerging Artist project grant, 2015.
